Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has commended UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres for his unparalleled help to the flood victims.
He said UNSG’s two-day tour has been essential in raising awareness about the human tragedy and emphasised that Pakistan needs worldwide cooperation to overcome this problem.
The Prime Minister said during his visit to the flood-affected districts and camps amid scorching heat, the UN Secretary General was stunned by the amount of damage that has overtaken Pakistan.
Shehbaz Sharif said UNSG’s voice has become the voice of flood victims. The world should pay notice to what he stated regarding climate change.
It warrants highlighting that United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres has departed after ending his two-day visit to Pakistan.
He made the visit on 9th and 10th of this month to demonstrate sympathy with the people of Pakistan who are confronting a huge climate-induced natural calamity caused by tremendous rainfall and floods throughout the nation.
During his visit he asked for considerable and persistent cooperation and solidarity from the world community to address the immense difficulties presented by the unprecedented climate related floods in Pakistan.
Besides high-level meetings, briefings, interactions with displaced people, UN country representatives, civil society and media, he also visited flood affected areas of Sindh and Balochistan, where he was given an overview of the rescue and relief efforts of the Government of Pakistan and national and international partners.
